Portsmouth – Kingston

The Portsmouth neighbourhood is located in Kingston West although it still feels like Kingston Central to me. This is my “hood”! I have lived here since 2001 and can tell you that I have no regrets. This area is home to Portsmouth Olympic harbour (think CORK!) and the historic village of Portsmouth. If the walls could talk, I am sure there would be amazing stories to be told. The area is steeped in history. Housing stock includes many early stone, brick and wood-sided buildings from the mid -19th century as well as houses built from the mid 1940’s to the 1980’s. St. Lawrence College is nearby as well as Lake Ontario Park to keep our 4 legged friends happy. North of the village (where I park it), is the “Book Belt”. Streets with names like Dickens, Mowat, Pickwick, Copperfield and Authors lane are lined with old growth trees. The very active senior centre is also in this neighbourhood as well as a football/soccer/play area for the kids. My 3 boys have enjoyed growing up in this area with a cul de sac to call their own for hockey or throwing the ball around. It’s a great neighbourhood to come home to. Prices in this area run from $500 and up. There are really some beautiful homes in this “best kept secret” in town (no bias here!).
